PHONICS This video shows the correct pronounciation of the letter sounds. NATIONAL YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS AWARD – 1 ST ROUND SUCCESS Congratulations go to Carrie, Hope, Michael and Liam who came second in their heat of this national competition. The two top points scoring teams from each heat were put forward to round two, and on Tuesday the team went to Highworth School for Girls for the second heat. From this round the top five points scoring teams from all the regional heats will progress to the national final to be held at University of Cambridge on 7 th December. We eagerly wait to see if they have progressed. MERSHAM’S GOT TALENT Alfie & Lorcan who have both been selected to play for the Ashford District Football Team. Michael member of the Kent team who won The English Primary Schools Chess Association, National Inter-Association Championships. Millie and Harvey who both won their age group in the MKA Sprint Challenge contested by all the schools in the Ashford area. Well done to all our very talented pupils! (If you have been successful in any area outside of school please let Pat know and she will put you in the next newsletter) KENT LEARNING ZONE (klz) UPDATE We are pleased to announce that all class teachers have now updated their class pages with information about what is going on during the term. Additional homework suggestions have also been posted for those pupils who wish to do extra work outside of school hours. Class one successfully piloted this area with pupils posting wonderful firework pictures created on the computer using a variety of programmes. These pictures were then shared in class. Well done to Mrs Cox and her class. ADMISSIONS REMINDER If you have a child born between 1 st September 2007 and 31 st August 2008 and you have not put their name down for a place at school please leave details at the school office. Applications should be made online at www.kent.gov.uk/ola however if you do not have access to the internet you may collect a paper application form from the school office. The closing date for submitting your application is Saturday 14 th January 2012.OUTDOOR CLASSROOM UPDATE We have been fortunate to be able to get some free trees and shrubs which have been planted in the outdoor classroom. This is the first phase of the planting scheme with more shrubs arriving in February. Thank you to Harry Brackley from class 5 for informing us about this scheme. OLYMPIC TORCH COMPETITION Don’t forget your entries for the Ashford’s Olympic Torch Competition. Pupils from all Ashford schools have been invited to enter one of two categories for this competition Category 1 – Design the torch that will tour all Ashford schools in April/May 2012. Category 2 – Design and make the torch that will tour all Ashford schools. All entries must have the school’s name, the pupils name, age and class written on. The closing date for the competition is Wednesday 7 th December. All entries should be brought into class on that day and given to the class school council representatives. The school council will judge the entries with the winner from each category going forward to the North School for the regional judging. Good Luck to everybody taking part. |
