Sport and PE at Mersham

Mersham Primary School has a rich sporting tradition.

We are delighted to announce that Mersham’s dedication and commitment to sport and P.E.  has been recognised by the continued awarding of the Sainsbury’s School Games Platinum Kitemark. This award is extremely difficult to obtain, involving a huge number of areas, including, amongst others: participation in competition, attendance at extra-curricular clubs, links with local sports clubs and the development of leadership skills with pupils. Only approximately 20 school in the United Kingdom have achieved this award.

At Mersham our aim is for children to: experience high quality learning in P.E., understand the contribution that regular physical activity contributes to their health and well-being and participate competitively in sports within school and out in the wider community.

Many, many congratulations to all the staff and parents who have put time, effort and enthusiasm into this, organising and supporting a huge range of opportunities and activities for the pupils at Mersham. And well done to the pupils for taking up all of the opportunities provided.

Well done everyone – let’s keep it up!

Events

So far in  2018/19… The children of Mersham have been very keen to represent the school within a range of sporting events this year. Events have included Cross Country, Handball, Volleyball, Sportshall Athletics, Infant agility, Basketball, Tennis, Cricket, Rounders, Football and Netball. A number of children also represented Ashford Schools at the Kent Cross Country competition in Detling. The Year 3 boys’ cross country team and Year 5/6 basketball team both did extremely well  and gained bronze medals at their events, which is brilliant. Below are some photos of some of the various events:
