Sport at Mersham

Mersham Primary School have been awarded the School Games Platinum Award. A reflection of how hard the teachers and children value School Sport and leading active lifestyles.

Coaches and Community Links

The children continue to benefit from high quality P.E. teaching. This is delivered by our amazing team and supported by our qualified sports coach Mrs Fraser; all classes will benefit throughout the year from his expertise. We are also lucky to have Tennis coaching from Sellindge Tennis Club, which the children are really enjoying. In the Summer Term, the children have high quality cricket coaching from the team at Mersham Cricket Club. Have a look at the ‘Community Sports Links’ page in ‘Our School Community’ section for more information.

Sports Crew...we eagerly await this years nominations!

At Mersham Primary School we have a committed ‘Sports Crew’ who work alongside the P.E. leader to develop sporting opportunities across the school. In Terms 1, 2 and 3, the Crew have been delivering active clubs to KS1 children during their lunchtimes. These have included Football, Netball and Drama.

Throughout the year, they will be continuing to think about ways we can further develop School Sport at Mersham by thinking of creative ways that we can get children active within the school day.

Term 3 – Sportshall Athletics for Years 3/4/5/6

On 9th January, our Year 3/4 and 5/6 athletes competed in a variety of track and field events at the Stour Centre. It was highly contested with over 20 schools attending each event. Our athletes did us proud! Thank you to all those who came and supported from the viewing gallery – it was great to see so many of you cheering the teams on!

Term 5 – ADPSSA Football Tournament

On Saturday 22nd April, our budding young footballers took park in the ADPSSA Football Tournament at Ashford School. We were successful in our group, securing our place in the semi-finals. The semi-final win was secured with a nail-biting penalty shoot-out! Unfortunately, we lost 1-0 in the final. One of our players secured ‘Player of the Tournament’. Very proud of our team!

Term 5 – Netball Match vs Smarden

On Tuesday 25th April, our amazing netball team were involved in a 12 goal thriller! A fast-paced match against Smarden ended in a 6-6 draw. Well done to the team and thank you to Mrs Conlon and Mrs Conlon for getting the players ready for the match!
