Mersham Primary School have been awarded the School Games Platinum Award. A reflection of how hard the teachers and children value School Sport and leading active lifestyles.
The children continue to benefit from high quality P.E. teaching. This is delivered by our amazing team and supported by our qualified sports coach Mrs Fraser; all classes will benefit throughout the year from his expertise. We are also lucky to have Tennis coaching from Sellindge Tennis Club, which the children are really enjoying. In the Summer Term, the children have high quality cricket coaching from the team at Mersham Cricket Club. Have a look at the ‘Community Sports Links’ page in ‘Our School Community’ section for more information.
At Mersham Primary School we have a committed ‘House Captain and Sports Crew’ who work alongside the P.E. leader to develop sporting opportunities across the school.
Throughout the year, they will be continuing to think about ways we can further develop School Sport at Mersham by thinking of creative ways that we can get children active within the school day and achieve their 60 Active Minutes each day.

At Mersham, we are committed to providing a environment and curriculum that nurtures both children’s physical and mental health. As part of our dedication to children leading healthy and active lifestyles, we use ’60 Active Minutes’ as a resource to promote ways that the school day can be more active for children and share ideas for them to continue with at home.
We aim. as a result. for children to become ‘physically literate’. Physical Literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding that provides children with the movement foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity.
60 Active Minutes Vision
We’re looking forward to another year of sporting success at Mersham! At out sporting events, we aim for them to meet some/all of the following aims:
This year, our football Team are involved in a Football League. At the end of the Autumn/Winter fixtures we were doing well with 5 wins and just one loss. We are looking forward to receiving the Spring Fixtures and getting back out on the pitch in 2024!
Fixtures and Results
On 24th January, we competed in the Sporthall Athletics Tournament at the Stour Centre. Our Year 3/4 Team competed in the morning and our Year 5/6 team in the afternoon. This is always a highly contested and competitive competition, with the 19 teams in the Year 3/4 event and 22 in the Year 5/6 event.
I am delighted to announce that we came 2nd in BOTH events – the best Mersham have ever placed – well done to our budding your athletes!
On 6th March, we competed in a Year 5/6 Basketball Tournament. This was a non-competitive event, but the team managed to win all of their matches and were proud of how they performed.
On Wednesday 24th April, we competed in the Ashford Hockey Club Tournament. The team, consisted of players of all abilities, but it was clear that they worked together as they achieved 4th place out of 12 teams!
On Saturday, 11th May, our Netball team competed against other small schools in the ADPSSA Netball tournament held at Willesborough School. We competed well and managed to beat both Aldington and Smeeth in our division matches. We came up against tough opposition, Challock, in the play-off for 1st/2nd place and came away with silved medals! Congratulations to the team and thank you to all those who came to support us on a sunny Saturday morning.
