SCHOOL FRUIT AND VEGETABLE SCHEME
The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme is a Government programme that entitles every child aged four to six in LEA-maintained schools to a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day. The aim of the scheme is to increase fruit and vegetable consumption to help protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers. The scheme means that children receive additional fruit and it is not a replacement for the fruit normally brought to school as part of their lunch or break time snack. Children are offered just one type of fruit or vegetable per day, at morning break time, this helps ensure that the children are introduced to a range of different fruits and vegetables rather than picking the same one each day.
MILK
If you wish your child to receive a carton of milk at morning break, please register on the Cool Milk website – www.coolmilk.com, automated telephone line – 0800 321 3248, or complete the form included in the New Entrants Packand return it direct to the company, Cool Milk at School Ltd. The milk is available free of charge to children under 5 years of age and will stop the Friday before their 5 th birthday. A letter will be sent offering the option to continue on the parent payment scheme. For those children over 5 years of age the milk is currently 28p per day for a 189ml carton. A fridge is supplied by the company and a local dairy delivers the milk to school.
